One thing I know about New York City is if you want to stand out, you have to be bold. For the third year in a row I attended New York Fashion Week, and this was definitely my boldest and most productive trip. My goal for this year's NYFW was to attend shows, network, and get as much content as possible for my blog and YouTube Channel. The main show I knew I wanted to attend was by designer Clavon Leonard. Clavon and I met in 2016 and since then I have been impressed with both his men's and women's collections. His latest collection was no different, from the bold patterns of his suits and tuxedos, to the sheer elegance of his flowing dresses. This was an absolutely amazing show and collection. The overall atmosphere for the show was vintage New York. The location was on the 22nd floor of a typical high rise building in downtown Manhattan. Like any designer, Clavon was excited about his new collection and couldn't decide on his favorite pieces in the collection. As he and I spoke, he described his process of putting together a new collection and his inspiration for this season's looks. I certainly had my favorites and they were in both the men's and women's collections. My favorite pieces from the women's collection were worn by models Angle Glaude in an all black sheer dress and Kenya Rachelle in an amazing light blue and black floral dress. These amazing dresses and models captured the attention of all in attendance. The next stop on our Saturday was the Derek Gores presentation at Lumas Gallery on Washington Street in downtown Manhattan. This event was a part of Style Fashion Week and going into it, I was expecting a typical runway show. However, what we got was live art display in an amazing art gallery. The venue was packed with photographers, bloggers, models and all levels of fashion lovers. The Lumas Gallery offered complimentary drinks and the DJ kept everyone entertained. This event turned into a networking event and I met so many people from all over the country that also love fashion. I couldn't be more proud of the team I brought with me and the progress we made in New York. This was an opportunity that my team and I definitely made the most of. Next up for me is Los Angeles Fashion Week and I hope I am able to bring California the same level of energy. Luqman Haskett ~Dapper Luq Videography by Brandon Waters Photography by Victoria Fifer
